BYU Museum of Art

Abby asked me last week what art was. We talked about painting, and sculpture and music and for the rest of the week she kept asking for more information.
"If I put stickers on a paper, is that art?"
Finally, I told her that anything can be art- that art is something someone creates from other things and it becomes something else. So, today I took her to the BYU Art Museum while Paul stayed with the babies. She was so excited and LOVED it all. There was a modern art display which featured a large piece decorated with orange sauce packets from a Chinese restaurant turned backward which looked awesome and there was a corner of packing peanuts with fans that blew on them making it look like ocean waves. Her favorite was a huge circle made of interlocking balloons. We looked at the brush strokes on the paintings close up, then stood back and enjoyed the effect. Her favorite painting was a large Carl Bloch- the museum's crown jewel- "Christ Healing the Sick at Bethesda". She fell down the stairs which gave us both a scare, but got right back up with minimal crying... oh, and she didn't touch a thing and was really quiet, well, for her anyway. I cannot wait to take her to more. She was disappointed in one thing; she asked me "Where is that one painting of the girl with her arms crossed but her eyes are open?" She meant the Mona Lisa. I really hope someday I can take her to see it in real life. We had such a fun mother-daughter day.

I am glad that you were able to spend some time with Abby alone, and that you got out of the house without the twins.
